4
QUARTERLY REPORT
for
Former Mobil Bulk Plant 04343
500 East Grantline Road
Tracy, California
March 11, 1993
INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of January 1993 ground water monitoring and sampling
performed by Alton Geoscience, and the interim remediation status at former Mobil Bulk Plant
04-343, 500 East Grantline Road, Tracy, California. The site is presently a fenced, vacant lot.
Adjacent properties are either vacant or commercial and industrial developments. A site vicinity
map is presented in Figure 1. A site map showing the former site configuration is presented in
Figure 2.
In August 1988, Mobil Oil Corporation abandoned the former bulk plant. All structures were
removed from the property including one underground gasoline storage tank and four
aboveground diesel storage tanks. Following removal of the gasoline tank, analysis of soil and
ground water samples indicated the presence of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPI) and
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX).
In April 1990, Alton Geoscience drilled 48 exploratory soil borings in a grid pattern to
characterize hydrocarbon concentrations in situ. In July and August 1990, approximately 6,100
cubic yards of soil was excavated to a depth of approximately 10 feet below grade (tbg). To
the greatest possible extent, hydrocarbon-affected soil was removed and properly disposed of at
the appropriate Class 11 and III facilities.
From September 1990 through April 1992, Alton Geoscience installed nine monitoring wells to
evaluate the possible impact of hydrocarbons on ground water, on- and offsite. Ground water
monitoring and sampling began on a regular basis in October 1990.
SUMMARY OF INTERIM REMEDIATION
Manual pumpouts for interim remediation of ground water began in March 1992 for Monitoring
2 210 and 2 340
Well AW-3 and in April 1992 for AW-9 (see Figure 2). As of January 1993, ,
gallons of ground water has been removed from AW-3 and AW-9. Recovered ground water was
properly disposed of at Liquid Waste Management, Inc., McKittrick, California, by Balch
Petroleum, Inc., Milpitas, California. Interim remediation is conducted in accordance with San
Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS) guidelines.
l
I
i
R
