Mr. Robert Mihalovich - 2 - 10 May 2001
3. The,report states that for purposes of estimating the cost of enhanced in situ bioremediation ORC,
Geomatrix assumed the following: (1)Annual groundwater monitoring would be performed and
ORC.would be replaced an average of three times per year; and (2) Benzene concentrations in
groundwater at the site are assumed to reach water quality objectives in about 15 years.
The report should provide (1) the basis for the three times per year replacement of ORC and(2)
justification for using 15 years as the time to remediate the site using ORC.
Due to the uncertainties in the amount of ORC needed per year and the time to remediate in
Alternative 3, Chevron should conduct a pilot study to obtain more concrete information so that a direct
comparison with monitored NA can be made. Therefore, please submit by 8 June 2001, a work plan to
conduct a pilot study using ORC.
If you have any questions, you may call meat (916) 255-3398 or e-mail at isorenp@rb5s:swrcb.ca.gov.
L ,
-Y-PHILIP ISORENA
Associate Engineer
cc: Ms!Margaret Lagorio, San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Stockton
Mr.'James Simpson, Stanislaus County Department of Environmental Resources, Modesto
Ms. Veenchee Foong, Geomatrix Consultants, Fresno,
I.
t
i
