You submitted the Comments in response to
our 13 March 2006 transmittal of a draft revised Monitoring and Reporting Program (MRP).
We incorporated several of the Comments into the final Monitoring and Reporting Program
No. R5-2006-0804, which is now in effect.
In the Comments, Chevron recommended using silica gel cleanup prior to performing the total
petroleum hydrocarbon analyses (TPHd and TPHg) because the silica gel will remove polar
by-products that are likely the result of the degradation of the petroleum hydrocarbons.
Because these by-products are from the degradation of the petroleum hydrocarbons they are
considered a constituent added to the groundwater from the pollution. Therefore, Chevron
needs to analyze the TPH without silica gel cleanup. Chevron is welcome to analyze the
groundwater samples both with and without silica gel cleanup and report both numbers.
Chevron also recommended removing the requirement for isoconcentration maps and
graphical summaries from the MRP. Due to the limited number of wells we have removed the
requirement for isoconcentration maps. However, we believe that graphical summaries of the
trends within the sampled wells are useful information and are still required.
The next semi-annual monitoring report is due 1 August 2006.
