This letter responds to Mr. Kingsbury's
request.
First of all, we would like to apologize for just now responding to Mr. Kingsbury. As we had explained
to Mr. Kingsbury during several phone calls, recent program and staffing changes at the Board resulted
in the Corral Hollow and Grant Line Roads site getting a low priority. Consequently, we could not
provide you or him our comments on Chevron's latest submittal until recently. As stated in our
10 May 2001 letter to Chevron (copy enclosed for your reference), we are requesting Chevron to submit
by 8 June 2001 a work plan to conduct a pilot study using oxygen releasing compounds (ORC) to clean
up the site. This request is based on Chevron's evaluation, which contained uncertainties in the amount
of ORC needed per year and the time to remediate the site. Despite this request for a pilot study,we
reiterated to Mr. Kingsbury on 30 May that the site could still be developed as long as site planning and
design include provisions for potential groundwater cleanup and long-term monitoring. Since the pilot
study and potential long-term monitoring would be performed along the southern and eastern edges of
the property, much of the property can be developed without being encumbered by cleanup or
monitoring work.
If you have any questions, you may call me at (916) 255-3398 or e-mail at isorenp@rb5s.swrcb.ca.gov.
- rL*& L, U
ILIP S.
