5 -
A.Vorster/5 October 1990 3
On 16 January 1990,WGR sampled wells MW-2 and MW-3. Well MW-1 was not sampled because
it was covered during use of heavy equipment in the area. Dewatering wells DW-1 through DW-3
had been filled with grout by Chevron Pipe Line, Inc. TPPH and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
and total xylenes (BTEX) were not detected in groundwater samples collected that were analyzed
by EPA Method 8240/8260.
In April 1990, WGR attempted to sample wells MW-2 and MW-3 but they were not found and
appear to have been buried.
SITE PLAN
Site plan maps will be used to locate the product pipeline(s),existing monitor and dewatering wells,
and the new monitor well that is proposed to be installed. For the purpose of this proposed
workplan, a site plan map is attached that indicates the location of the proposed monitor well
location (Figure 2).
SITE SAFETY PLAN
The site safety plan has been prepared and will be on-site during all field activities. An
underground locating service will be employed to identify underground utilities and other possible
subsurface obstacles.
SOIL BORINGS AND SAMPLING
The WGR standard operating procedure for collecting soil samples during drilling is included in
Attachment A. The proposed soil boring locations are indicated on Figure 2. Proposed boring B-1
is located across Grant Line Road on the Pombo property in an estimated cross-gradient direction.
Boring B-2 is located near the location of former dewatering well DW-1 at the west end of the spill
area. Borings B-3, B-4, and B-5 are in an estimated downgradient direction of the spill area. The
location of the soil borings may have to be adjusted according to accessibility and underground
utilities or obstacles and to accommodate construction plans for the site. The proposed soil
boring/monitor well locations will be indicated on a site plan map attached to the well permit
submitted to the SJLHD.
Soil samples will be collected from the boring at approximate intervals of 2.5 ft, for lithologic and
hydrogeologic characterization, and for possible analysis for TPPH and BTEX, and oil and grease
by EPA Methods 8240/8260 and Standard Method 503E, respectively. The soil samples will be
107w10C0.va
