(URSGWC) is pleased to present this workplan to conduct a soil and
groundwater investigation at the California Highway Patrol (CHP)facility located 385 West Grantline Road in
Tracy, California (Site). This workplan has been prepared on behalf of the State of California—Real Estate
Services Division under Contract No. 3014214. The following pages present the background and proposed scope
of work.
BACKGROUND
A single-walled gasoline fuel underground storage tank (UST) is located at the Site. A soil investigation was
conducted by Alton Geosciences in March 1999 to comply with UST upgrading requirements. The investigation
included drilling and sampling four soil borings. The borings were extended to approximately 25 feet below
ground surface (bgs). Groundwater was encountered at approximately at five to seven feet bgs. Soil samples
were collected at 10 and 25 feet bgs from each boring and submitted for laboratory analyses of total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPH-G);benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene, and xylenes(BTEX). The samples collected
at 25 feet bgs were also analyzed for methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE). The analytical results reported
concentrations of MTBE in all four soil samples collected at 25 feet bgs at concentrations ranging from 0.004 to
0.093 milligrams per kilogram. TPH-G and BTEX were not detected in any of the samples collected at 10 or 25
feet bgs. Based on these analytical results, the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division(SJCEHD)
requested that a soil and groundwater investigation be completed at the Site.
SCOPE OF WORK
URSGWC is proposing the installation of three groundwater monitoring wells at the Site to assess the lateral and
vertical extent of soil and groundwater contamination. This workplan includes a discussion of permitting,
groundwater monitoring well installation, groundwater monitoring well development, quarterly groundwater
monitoring well sampling and report preparation. A copy of the URSGWC Health and Safety plan will be on-site
during the drilling and sampling operations.
LA 4214102_Tracy\Workp1an.doc
