(URSGWC) is pleased to present this report summarizing the soil and
I
r groundwater investigation conducted at the California Highway Patrol (CHP)facility located at 385 West Grantline
Road in Tracy, California(Site). This report has been prepared on behalf of the State of California—Real Estate
Services Division under Contract No. 3014214. 1
BACKGROUND
A single-walled gasoline underground storage tank (UST) was located at the Site. A soil investigation was
fi conducted by Alton Geosciences in March 1999 to comply with UST upgrading requirements. The investigation
included drilling and sampling four sail borings. The borings were extended to approximately 25 feet below f
ground surface(bgs). Groundwater was encountered at approximately five to seven feet bgs. Soil samples were
collected at 10 and 25 feet bgs from each boring and submitted for laboratory analyses of total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPH-G); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX). The samples collected
at 25 feet bgs were also analyzed for methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE). The analytical results reported
concentrations of MTBE in all four soil samples collected at 25 feet bgs at concentrations ranging from 0.004 to
0.093 milligrams per kilogram. TPH-G and BTEX were not detected in any of the samples collected at 10 or 25 j
feet bgs. Based on these analytical results, the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD)
requested that a soil and groundwater investigation be completed at the Site. The workplan was submitted to
SJCEHD on March 13, 2000 and approved by SJCEHD on March 12, 2000. Fieldwork was delayed so the UST t
could be removed from the Site. The UST was removed by SEMCO on May 18, 2000. Analytical results for soil
samples collected following the UST removal were non-detect.
SITE INVESTIGATION ACTIVITIES
"' Prior to drilling activities,URSGWC submitted a drilling permit application and fee to the SJCEHD. An approved }
permit was received for the drillingactivities. The field activities were completed on June 22 and 28, 2000 with
P
no significant deviations from the approved workplan. Underground Service Alert(USA)was notified a minimum
of 48-hours prior to commencement of field activities.
To assess the lateral extent of groundwater impact at the Site, URSGWC drilled and installed three groundwater
monitoring wells. A figure showing the monitoring well locations is included as Attachment I. The wells were
constructed in borings drilled using a truck-mounted, hollow stem auger(HSA)equipped drill rig.
