1
' onsite source areas And the groundwater grab data will be used as a screening tool to
characterize water quality across the Site and offsite
' 4.2.1 Soil Sampling
Soil samples will be collected onsite using a hand auger or direct push technique
' Approximately 6 soil samples will be collected at a depth of about 2 5 feet bgs around the
Sherwin Williams building and approximately 10 soil samples collected in the undeveloped
portion of the Site at approximately 4 5 feet bgs This deeper sample depth in the undeveloped
area is to compensate for the estimated 2 feet of fill placed during excavation of the storm water
' basin The approximate height of the fill will be confirmed prior to sampling In addition,4
deeper soil samples (10-foot depths) will be collected at select locations for correlation with the
' previous data collected The approximate sample locations are shown on Figure 3
' . Soil samples will be collected using plastic or stainless steel sample sleeves and logged in
general accordance with the visual-manual procedure for soil classification ASTM D2488
' Visual observations will include documenting the presence of hydrocarbon staining and
identifying any unusual odors The borings will be tremie grouted (from the bottom up)using a
' cement grout The soil samples will be tested for TPH-gasoline, TPH-diesel, TPH-motor oil,
BTEX, and MTBE as described in Table 1
1
4.2.2 Groundwater Grab Sampling
' Groundwater grab samples will be collected at approximately 8 onsite locations and at about 10
toffsite locations (Figure 3) Additional borings will be drilled as needed Samples will be
collected using a Hydropunch® sampling system, or equivalent (Figure 3) The sampling system
' includes installing a 1 75-mch diameter stainless steel filter screen at the desired depth A
groundwater sample is then collected using a new disposable bailer The sample screens will be
' placed within the first water, generally between 7 and 10 feet bgs Four deeper groundwater grab
samples will be collected at depths between 16 and 19 feet at select locations PVC slotted
' casing may be temporarily placed in the hole if water recovery is slow
Field Investigation Work Plan 7 2 September 2003
' TREADWELL&ROLLO,INC
