y1tC IC <br /> SHARP Management Manual <br /> Former Tracy MGP Project Safety Plan (PSP) <br /> • ANSI-approved hard hat <br /> Other personal protection readily available for use, if necessary, includes the following: <br /> • outer nitrile gloves and inner nitrile surgical gloves when direct contact with <br /> chemically affected soils or groundwater is anticipated(nitrile surgical gloves may <br /> be used for collecting or classifying samples as long as they are removed and <br /> disposed of immediately after each sampling event) <br /> • chemical-resistant clothing(e.g.,Tyvek or poly-coated Tyvek coveralls)when <br /> contact with chemically affected soils or groundwater is anticipated <br /> • safety shoes/boots with protective over-boots or knee-high PVC poly-blend boots <br /> when direct contact with chemically affected soils is anticipated <br /> • hearing protection <br /> • sturdy work gloves <br /> • Heavy Equipment Operation. Evaluate the use of heavy equipment in operations such <br /> as site clearing, grading, drilling and excavation or lifting. Controls should include <br /> equipment alarms, use of qualified operators, equipment inspections, and any specific <br /> OSHA regulatory requirements. <br /> • Material Handling. Consider the size and weight of loads, the equipment to be used, <br /> how the equipment is set up and protected, and safety and maintenance inspections of <br /> material handling and rigging equipment. Also consider employee training in the use of <br /> the equipment or personal body mechanics when engaged in manual material handling <br /> activities. <br /> • Material Storage. Consider where materials and equipment will be stored on site. <br /> Implement measures to protect against chemical spills/releases, fire, vandalism and theft <br /> of tools, equipment, or materials. Also consider the hazards that may exist for workers <br /> when they are storing or retrieving those materials. <br /> • Mobilization/Demobilization. Conduct an initial site inspection for pre job planning. <br /> The inspection should cover potential exposures such as the location of electrical lines, <br /> underground utilities, nearby structures, traffic conditions, site security needs, public <br /> exposures general liability, and other potential exposures. <br /> • Portable Hand and Power Tools. Evaluate the tools to be used and the ways that <br /> workers are protected from the hazards associated with the use of tools. Consider tool <br /> maintenance requirements; electrical requirements; the use of ground fault circuit <br /> interrupters, grounding, extension cords, and tool inspection procedures; and employee <br /> training and PPE requirements. <br /> • Process Safety Management. At process sites where highly hazardous chemicals are <br /> stored or used, comply with special considerations and process safety management <br /> OSHA regulations. <br /> • Traffic Controls. Control measures include warning signs, flagmen, traffic stoppage and <br /> control, and unloading procedures. Internal traffic control plans should include ways to <br /> restrict the number of vehicles on site, the flow of vehicles accessing the site and driving <br /> 27 <br />
