Soil Suitability/ Nitrate Loading Study Irerracon
Manteca Farm Improvement Manteca, California
October 29, 2019 Terracon Project No. NA197073
agricultural land use and the existing and/or former septic systems on the site should be
considered potential groundwater contamination sources.
1.4.3 Water Sample Location
A groundwater sample was collected from a faucet connected to the private well located adjacent
west of the classroom building (5298 E. Brunswick Road) and submitted on ice to McCampbell
Analytical Inc. for analysis. Sample GW-1 was collected into a clean unpreserved plastic 125
milliliter(ml) bottle and analyzed for nitrate as N by EPA Extraction Method E300.1. Sample GW-
2 was collected into two clean glass 40 ml VOAs preserved with ascorbic and meleic acid and
analyzed for DBCP (1,2-Dibromo-3-chloropropane) by EPA Extraction Method E524.3. Nitrate as
N was reported at 32 mg/L in groundwater sample GW-1 above the MCL of 10 mg/L-N or 140
mg/L nitrate above the MCL of 45 mg/L nitrate. Groundwater sample GW-2 reported below
laboratory reporting limits of 0.010 micrograms per liter(ug/L)for DBCP.
1.4.4 Groundwater Sample Analysis
Refer to Section 1.4.3.
1.4.5 Groundwater Sample Handling
Refer to Section 1.4.3.
1.5 Soil Profile and Geologic Information
The site is depicted on the Geologic Map of California 2010, as within generalized quaternary
Pleistocene and Holocene deposits which are comprised primarily of unconsolidated and semi-
consolidated alluvium, lake, playa, and terrace deposits.
Terracon reviewed the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources
Conversation Service (NRCS) Web Soil Survey for information regarding soil properties. Based
on information obtained from the USDA sources, the site consists of the following soil types.
Table 4.
USDA Soil Types.
Map Symbol Map Unit Name Percent of Site Location
Delhi fine sand, 0 to 5 Across the majority of the and
141 percent slopes 95 location of the proposed septic
system.
Tinnin loamy coarse
255 sand, 0 to 2 percent 4.0 Northeast corner
slopes
Responsive■ Resourceful ■ Reliable 9
