(Wright)is pleased to provide you with this workplan
for the environmental investigation at the above referenced site located at 10 West Grantline
Road, Tracy, CA (see Figure 1). The purpose of this work is to ascertain the depth to
groundwater, identify suspected petroleum contaminants in soil and groundwater and
install monitoring wells around the former tank area as required by the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS EHD) in their letter dated
January 26, 1998. Wright has discussed the initial investigation approach presented in our
letter dated May 23, 1997 with the PHS EHD, and agreed upon a reconnaissance approach
to ascertain current site conditions prior to installing monitoring wells.
Background
Wright removed five underground storage tanks from the site on October 23, 1993. the
tanks included: Tank 1, 90-gallon; Tank 2, 300-gallon; Tank 3, 280-gallon; Tank 4, 18-
gallon and Tank 5, 18-gallon. Tanks 4 and 5 were part of the associated piping for Tanks
2 and 3. The tanks had apparently been used for gasoline storage. Tank 2 had holes in it
and soil contamination was evident at the time of removal. Groundwater occurred roughly
8- to 10 feet below the surface. Approximately 190 cubic yards of contaminated soil was
excavated, and 3225 gallons of groundwater pumped from the excavation. Analytical
testing showed that Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPHG) was detected in
soil and groundwater samples, and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel was not
detected in any sample. Following the soil excavation, the curbs were relocated due to
widening of Grantline Avenue.
During the removal of T- through T-5,Wright was informed by the property owner that the
City acquired the property for widening Grantline Road and tanks were not known to have
been present. Also the property owner reported two additional tanks had been removed at
an earlier date from the east side of the building.
67 E. 10th Street • Tracy,CA 95376
209.833.0758 • Fax 209.832.5152
wright@inreach.com Lic. #651501 A-B HazMat Page 1
we8sit http://home.inreach.comhvright
