(ATC) on your behalf for the above-referenced site.
In the report, ATC presents the findings from analysis of soil and grab groundwater
samples collected from - soil boring SB-6, and grab groundwater samples from
hydropunch® sampling points HP-1 and HP-2 to further evaluate the lateral and vertical
extent of impacted soil and groundwater.
Analytical results from this investigation indicate that none of the chemicals of concern
was detected in the two grab groundwater samples collected from the two hydropunch®
borings HP-1 and HP-2. Also analytical results from the one soil sample collected from
soil boring SB-6 at approximately nine feet below surface grade.(bsg) were non-detect for
chemicals of concern. Only one grab groundwater sample collected from soil boring SB-6
at approximately seven to twelve feet bsg was found to contain methyl tertiary-butyl ether
(MTBE) at a concentration of 32 micrograms per liter. Based on these results, ATC
proposes to collect confirmation samples in the vadose zone to provide current data that
may be used to calculate a more accurate residual mass; and conduct a soil gas study to
evaluate the potential for vapor intrusion into the onsite building.
The EHD concurs with the recommendation to evaluate the potential for vapor intrusion
inside structures at this site and directs the submittal of a work plan to collect soil gas
samples by June 25, 2010. Residual concentrations should be compared to the
Environmental Screening Levels. (ESLs) established by the San Francisco Bay Regional
Water Quality Control Board, for gross contamination and direct exposure, and to the
California Human Health Screening Levels (CHHSLs) established by the California
Environmental Protection Agency; an evaluation of the need to collect soil gas samples
should be included.
