PUBLIC r1EALTH SERN7-010ES a,N
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Ernest M. Fujimoto, M. The results indicate that the release
of petroleum from the underground storage tanks formerly located at 2421 Holly Drive
are not likely the source of, or a contributor to, the elevated levels of hydrocarbons
observed in monitoring well MW#4 at this site.
The data collected at this site to date indicate a groundwater contaminant plume
localized around the tank pit area, predominantly in the backfill area of the underground
storage tanks. There have been discussions in the past with your consultants that
monitoring well MW#4 may possibly be hydraulically connected to the tank pit backfill.
The data from the site also indicate a slow leaching from this impacted core area into
the surrounding soil and groundwater, laterally in the capillary fringe zone. Unless the
core area of contamination is abated, this leaching will continue to occur over time.
Therefore, alternatives to reduce the contamination in the tank pit area should be
evaluated for effectiveness and cost. The most cost effective alternative should be
selected and ultimately implemented at this site. Once the core area contaminant
concentrations are reduced, this site will likely be a good candidate for a low risk
closure. Please conduct the above noted evaluation and submit to PHS-EHD for
review. Please also include a proposed time schedule for implementation.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
