We do not feel that the proposal
is premature and would like to respond to your letter outlining the CVRWQCB's concern's and
Post Office Box 192972 the deficiencies of our proposal for bioremediation.
i
San Francisco Your letter outlined five areas of deficiency, I would like to address each one of these areas.
Soi i&points were addressed in the addenduin'leffei of',Dee"eiriber 45 1994 byDn Don
McEdwards'of Trans- ech'which was sent ' '
ou and theCVRW CB.
California.94119 Q •'
1)"Site'Assessment to deter»tine fit 11.extent o f th'e contamination is not yet`coinplete:
We are aware-that'further characferization of the site is required. This point was addressed by
Phone:415-255-0860 Dr. Don McEdwards in his letter dated December 15, 1994. In order to determine the full
I
extent of contamination at the site we have proposed to advance an additional 10 borings on the
Fax:415-431-0334 site inthearea that has yet to be defined. Two of these borings will be developed as monitoring
wells at locations northeast and west of the former tank excavation.
2) The soil at the site should be characterized for the following; moisture content, porosity,
BRANCH OFFICE nitrogen content, phosphorous content, and natural.,'•occurring biological content.
'Sufficient information regarding the soil characteristics is supplied in subsurface investigation
reports supplied by Parker Environmental. The soil at the site is classified as silty and sandy
clays and fine to medium grain sands. These conditions provide an excellent:environment for
3101 Sillect Ave. our application.
Suite 105 The H-10 microaerophilic bacteria are already fully nutrient loaded prior to inoculation.
Nitrogen, phosphorous and the naturally occuring biological content have no significant impact
Bakersfield on the effectiveness of the H-10 bacteria.
California 93308 3)Ground water pumping and vap`dr ixtraction tests should be performed at the site.
Gtoundwaterpumping and vapor extraction'tests are=not appUable, for this bioremediation
approach, which isalso a less expensive than piinip and treator soil vapor extraction
technologies:'' ..:.,,
Phone:805-326-0173
I
Fax:805-326-0527
I
