\A J <br /> v <br /> Ms. Vicki McCartney <br /> June 10, 2003 s <br /> Page 2 r <br /> The proposed locations of 14 hand augered soil sampling locations are shown in Figure 2. <br /> Sampling will be performed sequentially at each location. Once the ground surface <br /> (sod/asphalt/concrete) has been penetrated(cored or broken through) a hand augered borehole <br /> will be commenced. An augerhole will be advanced to a depth of three (3) feet and a drive <br /> sampler will be used to collect a soil sample,(approximately 1.5-inch by 3-inch). The auger will <br /> then be advanced to approximately five (5) feet and a sample will be collected. The process of <br /> two-foot advancement and soil sampling will be repeated until first groundwater is encountered. <br /> Soil samples will possibly have been collected at depths of 3, 5, and 7 feet. (groundwater is <br /> anticipated to be encountered at a depth of around 6 to 8 feet). As they are collected the soil <br /> samples will be labeled and stored in an ice chestimaintained at the temperature available from <br /> its also containing ajid bed of crushed ice placed'there at the start of the sampling day. The ice <br /> was not allowed to completely melt before it wMs replaced. The two lower soil samples from <br /> each augerhole will be logged onto a Chain-of-Custody form. <br /> The chain-of-custody form will include the request for analysis by U.S. EPA Method 8260FAB <br /> for total petroleum hydrocarbons in the gasoline range(TPH-gasoline or TPHG), for the volatile <br /> aromatic hydrocarbon compounds(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylene isomers), <br /> and for the Fuel Oxygenates: tertiary-Butyl alcohol(TBA);Methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MtBE); <br /> Di-isopropyl Ether(RIPE);Ethyl tertiary-butyl ether(EtBE);and tertiary-Amyl methyl ether <br /> (TAME).
