' 10 August 1999
AGE-NC Project No 95-0105
' 22
COLLECTION OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
IWater samples were collected from each well using a new disposable plastic bailer Each water
sample was transferred Into three 40-m1 volatile organic analysis (VOA)vials containing 0 5 ml of
hydrochloric acid(18%) as a sample preservative and into one I-liter amber bottle After collection,
the samples were properly labeled, placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-
custody to McCampbell Analytical, Inc (MAI) Each sample was analyzed in accordance
• EPA Method 8015 Modified for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and as
diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d),
i • EPA Method 8020 for volatile aromatic compounds (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and
total xylenes BTEX) and Methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE),
• EPA Method 8260 Modified for dl-Isopropyl ether(DIPS), ethyl tertiary butyl ether(ETBE),
methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME) and tertiary butyl
alcohol (TBA)
} i 3.0. ROAD CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
u As part of widening Grant Line Road on the north side of the site, a trench for underground utilities
was established across the northern portion of the former site boundary A five-foot trench was
excavated approximately three feet wide the entire length of the frontage of the site to Grant Line
Road
Soil from the excavation reportedly had Iittle hydrocarbon odor, however, the soil was transported
to Forward Landfill and stockpiled pending analysis Approximately 233 tons of soil were reportedly
removed by excavation from the north edge of the site The soil was characterized by analysis of a
four-to-ane composite soil sample for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline, diesel,
kerosene and motor oil(TPH-g,TPH-d,TPH-k and TPH-mo)and BTEX The composite soil sample
only contained 200 milligram per kilogram of TPH-mo Copies of the landfill weight receipts and
the analytical results of soil samples are included in Appendix B
As the trench was excavated primarily excavated across presumably clean backfill of former
remedial excavations and the composite sample of the excavated soil did not contain detectable
concentrations of BTEX or TPH-g,AGE concludes that the lateral and vertical extent and the mass
of remaining petroleum hydrocarbons calculated and reported in the 02 June 1997 Closure Summary
Report have not significantly changed
Advanced GcoEm ironmental,Inc
