July 8, 1988 AGS Jot- No. 38032-1 <br /> UNOCAL Service Station No. 6981, Stockton, California <br /> REMOVAL OF TANKS <br /> Town & Country Contractors of Sacramento, California, removed the <br /> tanks and were responsible for acquiring necessary permits and <br /> notifying the appropriate author?.ties. Mr. Harlin Knoll of the <br /> San Joaquin Local Health District was present d.iring removal of <br /> the tanks and soil sampling. <br /> A geologist from ApptieO. GeoSystems was present at the site on <br /> June 14, 1988, to observe removal of the underground storage <br /> tanks and collect six soil samples from beneath the base of the <br /> tanks. The tanks were removed and soil excavated from the tank <br /> cavities with a hoptoe. According to Town & Country per,onnel, <br /> the removed storage tanks were hauled to H & H Shipyard in South <br /> San Francisco to be cut up and used as scrap metal. No <br /> throughgoing holes were obser.ad during inspection of the three <br /> tanks, although some oxidation of the tank surface was present on. <br /> I <br /> each of the tanks. <br /> Two samples of native soil were collected from b.,neath each end <br /> of the former storage tanks. The samples were collected from <br /> approximate depths of 15 feet below the ground surface in the <br /> tank cavity, or 2 to 3 feet below the base of anc, adjacent to <br /> 8 <br />
