Comstock
UNOCAL Corporation
76 Broadway
Sacramento, California 95818
Subject: Executive summary of Work Plan for evaluation of soil
and ground-water contamination at UNOCAL Service
Station No. 6981, 4707 Pacific Avenue, Stockton,
California.
Mr. Comstock:
The attached Work Plan describes a program for future work to
evaluate the vertical and horizontal extent of hydrocarbon
contamination at the above-referenced site.
During installation of a gasoline blending system by UNOCAL
Corporation, Applied GeoSystems was contracted to collect native
soil samples from locations specified by UNOCAL personnel.
. Results of the soil analyses indicate that the soil was
contaminated with hydrocarbons. Based on .these findings, Applied
GeoSystems conducted further excavation which revealed
contamination present to an approximate depth of 20 feet.
Contaminated soil was excavated to approximately 20 feet deep in
areas not limited by site structures.
Based on the presence of soil hydrocarbon contamination
encountered, Applied GeoSystems recommended further work at the
site. This work should include delineation of the vertical and
horizontal extent of soil and possible ground-water
contamination. We recommend performing a soil vapor survey of
the site for preliminary delineation of the hydrocarbon plume.
Results of the sail vapor survey will enable Applied GeoSystems
to make informed recommendations regarding the placement of
subsequent monitoring wells. The proposed monitoring wells will
be used to approximate the lateral limits of soil and ground
water-contamination
- at-the-site - _r -- -- - -_ -—--{
