June 1, 1988 AGS Job No. 038032-2
s" UNOCAL Service Station No. 6981, Stockton, California
SOIL BORING/SAMPLING
The soil borings will be drilled using 8- to 10-inch-diameter,
continuous flight, hollow stem augers and a Nobile B-61, or
similar, drill rig. Auger flights will be steam cleaned prior to
use to minimize the possibility of downhole- or cross-hole
contamination. The drilling will be performed -under the
observation of a field geologist, and the earth materials in the
boring will be logged as drilled using the Unified Soil
Classification System.
During drilling, soil samples will be collected at 5-foot
inte vals using a California-modified split-spoon sampler
p equipped with I aboratory-cleaned brass sleeves. Samples will be
- collected by advancing the boring to a point immediately above
the sampling depth, then driving the sampler into the n, ;ive soil
through the hollow center of the auger. The sampler will be
driven 18 inches with a standard 140-pound hammer repeatedly
dropped 30 inches. The number of blows required to drive the
sampler each successive 6 inches will be counted and recorded to
60
give an indication of soil consistency. Examples of a Field
Boring Lng form, Plate P-3, as well as a Boring Log Plate used in
our final report, Plate P-4, are included with this report.
9
