July 8, 1988 AGS Job No. 38032-1
! UNOCAL Service Station No. 6981, Itockton, California
r
Based on previous work in the area and conversations with
personnel of the California Regional Water Quality Control Board,
Central Valley Region, the depth to first ground water is
estimated to be approximately 30 feet. Ground water is inferred
to have a southeasterly gradient based on regional data supplied
by California Water Service of Stockton, California, and Applied
Geosystems project sites located in the area. This gradient can
vary locally depending on seasonal fluctuations of ground-water
4 levels and local ground-water pumping.
FIELD WORK AND METHODS
Initial work at the site began on May 13, 1988, when a geologist
from Applied GeoSystems collected nine soil samples from 4-foot
deep test pits located on each side of the two dispenser islands z
and one located perpendicular to and at the southern end of the
dispenser islands. These samples were collected in response to
- ` contamination encountered during installation of a gasoline-
blending system at the service station. Samples were collected
using a hand operated percussion sampler to drive a clean brass
sleeve into the soil immediately after it was brought to the
surface in a backhoe bucket. Samples were then sealed with
aluminum foil, a plastic cap, and air-tight tape, before being
labeled and placed in iced-storage.___A-Chain_of Custody_-Record-------
4
Record -- -
AA,0,0/1ed Geosystems --
