NYDiJ= U
+ ENVIAL
TECH INC.
V
6.a
2.0 INITIAL FIELD INSPECTION
2.1 Methodology
- HETI personnel visited the Canandaigua plant and the adjacent property on March
26, 1993. After a brief meeting with Mr. Mark Gabrielli of Canandaigua, the HETI
. field inspector examined the pit and the accessible areas of construction debris. HETI
did not move any materials in the debris piles, or attempt to determine what was
beneath those portions of the pile that were readily visible. All observations were
recorded in the field for the purposes of this report.
2.2 Results of Field Assessment
An effort was made to document the physical characteristics of as much of the
,r readily accessible debris material as possible. As portions of the pit/debris piles were
too loose or too steeply piled to allow detailed inspection, only those materials that
could be safely reached were inventoried. The results of the field assessment are
presented in Figure 2 and in the bullets below:
LM • The debris that has been piled on and in the pit appears to be the product of
numerous construction projects. The materials are mostly segregated into
separate piles, apparently a function of the individual loads brought into the
dump site.
. * A large pile of concrete debris has been dumped along the eastern edge of the site.
This pile consists mainly of reinforced concrete pilings and slabs, with minor
amounts of cast iron piping and wood. These materials appear as if they may
have been part of a bridge.
• Numerous piles of asphalt surface material, raw asphalt, concrete debris, and
miscellaneous construction waste is piled along the southern border of the pit.
Much of this material has also been dumped downslope into the pit.
A pile of what appears to be sand fill has been deposited in the central portion of
the pit. Small grasses are growing on portions of the pile. A second pile of soil
v
2
LM
