CENTRAL VALLEY REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD
INSPECTION±REPORT
DATE: 18 January 2012
LOCATION & COUNTY SMS Briner, San Joaquin County
CONTACT(S): Bob Chelli
INSPECTION DATE: 5 January 2012
INSPECTED BY: Howard Hold (RWOCB),
OBSERVATIONS AND COMMENTS
Staff met with Bob Chelli to discuss the site. We discussed the operations and then his
foreman drove me around the tank yard. Discharge of wastewater at the facility is
handled by pumping the wastewater down the onsite injection well, which is permitted
by US EPA (See Figure 1). All rainwater and brine tank overflow is collected by a curb
and gutter system (See Figure 2) and sent to a sump (See Figure 3) where it is pumped
to a holding tank prior to being pumped down the injection well.
Staff was informed that additional paving will occur later this year which will help
improve with the quality storm water runoff
The site is also under corrective action for the release of saline water from surface
impoundments that were subsequentlyremoved and covered. Figure 4 shows the
discharge from the groundwater extraction system. Staff estimated the flow at about 5
gal/min-
SUMMARY:
Staff did not any violations of the Waste Discharge Requirements. Additional
improvements to storm water controls will help improve run off quality. An evaluation
should be completed to evaluate if the current pumping rate in the extraction well is
controlling the plume.
HOWARD HOLD, P.G.:
Engineering Geologist
CIWQS Inspection ID 6823606
