Vill. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on our review
u and Judgment, there is a high potential for petroleum
contamination at the underground tank location and the workshed In the dairy area.
There is a moderate potential for contamination from other hazardous liquids that were
used and stored at the workshed area. There Is no Information to indicate the presence
of contamination from on-site sources In the agricultural or stockpiled fill areas. As with
other agricultural land, there is a possibility that residues of pesticides and herbicide's
could be present.
The potential for contamination from off-slte sources varies. There is a low
potential for petroleum contamination from possible past leakage of one or' both of the
reported abandoned pipelines in the Southern Pacific Land. The pipes could have leaked
because of, their reported age and service period (1935-55). Sufficient leakage could have
resulted In migration of contaminants Into the soil and groundwater on the `site because
the pipelines are upgradlent. Microbial degradation may have reduced the cancentratlons
of such contaminants, It any.
There is a moderate to high potential for contamination from pesticides, and
herbicides, in soil and groundwater at .the Irrigation runoff ditch.
We recommend that monitoring wells be Installed and that soil and water samples
be tested to evaluate whether contamination from on-site or off-site sources I Is present in
detectable :,concentrations. San Joaquin County has a lengthy permit and revlew, process
which takes up to 4 weeks on a priority basis after application submittal. With time for
drilling and non-priority laboratory .testing, results will not be available for 7 to 10 weeks
after application submittal,
R:604,09N 15 6/1/89
-- --- -- - ---- -
