Grant Line
Tracy, CA
San Joaquin County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)has
reviewed the November 30, 1993 Groundwater Investigation Report prepared by Helmick
and Lerner for the above referenced site.
As recommended in the LUFT manual "a minimum of four measurements of the
potentiometric surface, allowing the independent solution'of four different three-point
problems, should be used to determine ground water gradient." In order to expedite the
investigation at the site, PHS/EHD requests that the potentiometric surface be measured in.
December 1993 and January 1994, in addition to the February 1994 measuring and sampling
proposed in the report. The potentiometric surface was measured on October 19, 1993 and
October 27, 1993, This will provide five measurements by which the 'site gradient can be
determined and verified.
After gradient has been verified, the existence of a down-gradient well can be determined.
If a down-gradient well does not exist, one must be installed. u+
Contamination was confirmed in the water which infiltrated the bottom of the pit during the
tank removal. The depth to groundwater on that day was measured to be seven feet. The
well log for MW-1 shows water at 9.5 feet. The well log for MW-2 shows water at 6.1 feet.
The well log for MW-3 was omitted from the report and cannot be commented on at this
time. Soil samples were not collected from a depth of 7 feet or greater, or at the capillary
fringe as reflected in the well logs. Therefore, PHS/EHD can not recognize the soil sample
results from the five foot depth as indicative that the soil at this site is not contaminated.
PHS-EHD requests the following items be submitted with the February Quarterly
Monitoring Report:
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
