PHS/EHD has the following comments for your consideration.
PHS/EHD agrees with the recommendations presented in the "Addendum". The installation of a
replacement monitoring well is necessary to assess groundwater quality and gradient. The proposed
investigation to define the lateral extent of soil contamination, included a minimum of three hand augered
soil borings drilled to a depth of approximately 8 feet. Please submit a work pian and a permit application
for the drilling of a monitoring well and soil borings by August 30, 1992.
Stockpiled soil consisting of approximately 1,200 cubic yards resulted from the January 2990 tank removal
and subsequent December 1991 re-excavation. The stockpiled soil is being stored on-site.
The "Addendum" recommended that the stockpiled soil be sampled for characterization and either
disposed of in a Class III landfill or treated on-site followed by off-site disposal. Please submit a sampling
and soil remedial treatment plan by July 27, 1992. Summer weather conditions are.favorable for microbial
treatment of contaminated soil.
If you have any comments or questions or to schedule the next quarterly sampling by July 16, 1992, please
contact Mary Meays, REHS,of my staff at (209) 468-0337.
Jogi Khanna, P.H.
Health O r
curie A.
