However, the December
11, 1991 water sample taken from the excavation pit following re-
excavation did detect 72 ppm TPH-diesel contamination. Therefore,
please continue quarterly sampling of MW-1 and P-2 to monitor the
possible migration of groundwater contamination. The next
quarterly sampling should be scheduled by April 17, 1992.
Approximately 1100 cubic yards of contaminated soils were removed
between December 9 through December 11, 1991. This soil is
stored on-site and covered with plastic. Periodic maintenance is
necessary to ensure that the plastic cover remains intact
preventing stormwater contact with the stockpile thereby leaching
contaminates.
Recommendations and conclusions are essential components of
reports. As submitted, the "Report of Soil Remediation" is
incomplete. Recommendations for the disposal and/or remediation
of the stockpiled soil and for the mitigation of residual soil
contamination, 40 ppm TPH-diesel, which remains at the conclusion
of the re-excavation, were not included. The recommendation for
mitigation should be included, along with a soil disposal plan,
as an Addendum to the "Report of Soil Remediation" due May 15,
1992 .
A Dh4sion of San Joaquin County Health('arc Services
i
