Mary Ways May 11, 1992 Page 2 soil were excavated from the area surrounding the former UST location During the course of the excavation, piezometer P-1 was destroyed by excavation as documented in the February 17, 1992 report A signed copy of the well destruction permit is included with the February 17, 1992 report On the basis of soil confirmation excavation samples obtained during remediation, BAI concluded that all remaining soil hydrocarbons were removed with the exception of a small localized area beneath the restroom Also, petroleum 'hydrocarbon contamination was verified to exist in the groundwater as seen in the excavation. As part of the quarterly groundwater monitoring initiated after the remediation, well P-2 was developed to be included in subsequent groundwater monitoring Documentation of this development was included in February 17, 1992 report SamRlm& and Sample Handling Prior purging of MW-1 and P-2, the monitonng wells were tested for the presence of ' free product using a clear bailer No free floating hydrocarbon product was observed in either well The wells were purged for by use of a bailer for 4 3 (MW-1) and 8 75 (P-2) casing volumes until pH, conductivity and temperature had stabilized. ,Samples were collected using a disposable polyethylene bailers and sample water was placed in approved sample containers for transport in a cooler containing blue ice at 4"C under chain of custody procedures to BACE Analytical Laboratory. Chain of Custody Reports are enclosed with this report Hydrocarbons Removed from Site No hydrocarbon containing materials have been removed from the site during this previous quarter Purge water from this sampling event is presently being stored on site in appropriately labeled 55-gallon drums until disposal can be initiated One barrel containing only purge water from the previous two sampling events will be emptied on-site during the next sampling event This barrel contains only purge and development water from MW-1 and P-2 where no detectable levels of contaminates are reported No hydrocarbons have been removed from the shallow groundwater zone through wells MW-1 and P-2 as all groundwater analytical testing (Table 1) has reported non- detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons in the groundwater BRUNSING ASSOCIATES INC.
