ISO
t Kenned*J&A*Chftm
Mr. Tom Terrill
Reynolds and Brown
26 January 1987
Page Seven
in soil samples were well below the ambient level goal of
1000 ug/Kg (parts per billion) for toluene in soil estab-
lished by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Because
toluene was not found in groundwater, it does not appear
that significant transport of toluene to groundwater has
occurred.
5) Based on the information obtained by this investigation, it
is our opinion that no remediation of undisturbed soil or
groundwater is warranted during removal of the tanks. We
recommend that material surrounding the tanks be monitored
for petroleum product content during tank removal by visual
observation or by a portable organic vapor monitor. All
soil found to contain product by this monitoring should be
removed, stockpiled in segregated areas, and covered pending
appropriate disposal.
Monitor well MWl should be abandoned when the underground
storage tanks are removed. . .Well abandonment should satisfy
the requirements of the San Joaquin Local Health District.
These call for. either removal of the well , casing and grout
L emplacement at the bottom of the borehole, or it this is not
possible, mechanical perforation of the well casing and
pressure injection of grout.
Please contact me if you have any questions or comments regard-
ing this report.
LVery truly yours,
KEINNEDY/JENKS/CH I LTON
Noel M.
