Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, Ca 95201
RE: GROUNDWATER ASSESSMENT OF PROPERTY LOCATED AT 724 E. GRAN'!' LINE
ROAD, TRACY, CA ;
Dear Ms. Cotulla and Mr. Moe:
It is my understanding that your agency may be requiring Reynolds &
Brown to install several groundwater monitoring wells at the property
in order to define the extent of benzene contamination in the aquifer.
The request made by Mr. Moe is based on the results of a report by
Applied Geosystems indicating the presence of benzene in standing i
groundwater upon removal of an underground tank at the subject i
property. Following your suggestion, we followed the advice of our
consultants, Aqua Terra Technologies, Inc. They suggested resampling
the existing monitoring well because the groundwater sample collected
by Applied Geosystems was not taken according to protocol established
by the Department of Health Services or the Regional Water Quality
Control Board for collecting of
groundwater
• The results of resampling existing
,
monitoring well indicated that benzene was 'not detectable.
I
I am of the opinion that appropriate measures were taken to determine E
if contamination exists, which the following findings state otherwise: I
i
I. Soil_ samples analyzed by Applied Geosystems indicated no
contamination.
2. The down gradient well, installed and sampled by Kennedy, Jenks &
! Chilton, indicated no detectable levels of benzene. (Report dated
Jarnlarv, 1987. )
I
3. Kennedy, Jenks & Chilton found no detectable levels of benzene in
soil samples and 13 50 43 mg/Kg (ppb) of toluene in soil. I
. The resampling of the existing well for benzene, xylene and
toluene by AgLja Terra `Irchnolcx-ies indicated
 no detectable levels
of these compounds.
5. The sampling of the groundwater by Applied Geosystems was j
inappropriate and not according to acceptable protocol_
hhfl{ t15.-i•nDrnr
' Seritr I{X]
Irl'Jh811Rn.
