Harding Lawson Associates
b. Carbon Reactors - Two (2) Sun-Ag Inc. Model 2000V
vapor phase adsorbers. Maximum flow rate capacity
Of 800 CFM. Each reactor will contain 21000
pounds of Virgin SA4x6CC Vapor Phase Activated
Carbon.
~' 2. Operating Schedule
Continuous - 24 hours/day, 7 days/week
46..
3 . Maximum Daily Production Rates and Expected Yields
Typical of vapor extraction systems, we estimate that
initial vapor concentrations will be relatively high,
but then decline rapidly to a steady low concentration
level. Without actual pump data from the trench (has
not been installed yet) we need to make some
assumptions. Maximum expected flow rate of the blower
manifolded to the trench, former tank laterals, and the
t. soil pile is anticipated to be 200 CFM. The expected
initial vap3r concentrations should be no higher than
20, 000 mg/M . After four days of operation, the vapor
concentrations should be steady at approximately 1, 000
mg/M and will gradually decline to less than 400 mg/M3
during the first year of operation.
Based on these assumptions, the calculated yield in
pounds per day of the VES is :
. Daily Yield = mg/M3 x ft3/min x M3/35. 3 ft3 x
1, 440 min/day x lb/453 , 592 mg
ti.
First Day Yield = 20, 000 x 200 x 1,440 / 35. 3 x
453 ,592
360 lbs/day
. Fourth Day Yield = 1, 000 x 200 x 1,440 / 35. 3 x
453 , 592
= 18 lbs/day
An average value of the first and fourth day is used to
calculate second and third day yields as 189 lbs/day.
Total estimated yield of VES during the first year with
no decline in vapor concentrations from 1, 000 mg/M3 is
approximately 7, 200 pounds of gasoline as vapor. This
is a high value estimate. Actual values should be much
lower as the vapor concentration are expected to
decline throughout he operation of the VES. If values
decline to 400 mg/M after one year of operation, the
032909P/RS3
