This report documents the
results of a subsurface tank investigation, performed at your request,
around a 1500 gallon gasoline storage tank located at the Tracy Service
Center. Prior to the investigation, the tank had been partially excavated
and exposed in preparation for removal. This investigation was initiated to
ascertain whether hydrocarbons were present in the backfill soil surrounding
the tank and, if present, to identify the types and concentrations of the
hydrocarbon mixtures.
Work done during the course of this study included drilling two exploratory
borings (one at each end of the tank), soil and water sampling each boring
and submitting selected soil and water samples to a certified laboratory
for chemical analysis. A total. of 5 soil samples and 2 water samples were
submitted for analysis.
Field observations and analytical results of the tested soil and water
samples suggest that the fuel tank is leaking. Furthermore, the presence of
gasoline floating on the ground water, as noted in both borings, indicates
that free product has intercepted the water table.
Lead was also present in all of the soil and water samples tested. Ethylene
Dibromide (EDB) was nondetectable in all the soil and water samples
analyzed.
Please contact myself or Larry A. Flora (551-5441) of my staff if you have
any questions concerning the results of this investigation.
LFlora(551-5441):lf
1582A/mrp7
cc w/attach: DGAday w/o attach: HKMcCluer
SChaewsky CBScott
MRLafferty
.
