a
A
5 . 0 ANALYTICAL RESULTS FOR SOIL AND GROUNDWATER
SAMPLES COLLECT FROM THE CPT BORINGS
All soil and groundwater samples collected from the CPT borings were
analyzed by Kiff Analytical, LLC for TPH-G, BTEX, the fuel oxygenates MTBE,
TBA, TAME, DIPE and ME, lead scavengers 1,2-DCA and 1,2-EDB, and the
alcohols ethanol and methanol by EPA Method 8260. The analytical
results for the soil samples collected from the CPT borings are tabulated
in Table One. The analytical results for groundwater samples collected
from the CPT borings are tabulated in Table Two. A copy of the certified
analytical reports and chain of custody forms are included in Appendix D.
The soil sample collected at 7.0-feet bgs from boring CPT-1 contained 260
ppm TPH-G and 0.66 ppm ethyl benzene. The soil sample collected at 7.0-
feet bgs from boring CPT-2 contained 6,500 ppm TPH-G, 12 ppm benzene,
87 ppm toluene, 91 ppm ethyl benzene, 410 ppm total xylenes, and 0.56
ppm MTBE.
The benzene and total xylenes concentrations detected in soil samples
collected from boring CPT-2 were the only compounds that exceeded the
United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Region IX
preliminary remediation goals (PRGs) for residential soil.
a The only compound detected above the laboratory reporting limit i n
groundwater samples collected from boring CPT-2 at 41-feet bgs was total
xylenes at 0.56 ppb. The groundwater samples collected from boring
CPT-2 at 37-feet bgs contained 74 ppb TPH-G, 3.0 ppb benzene, 2.3 p p b
toluene, 2.5 ppb ethyl benzene, and 4.8 ppb total xylenes.
The benzene concentration in groundwater samples collected from boring
CPT-2 at 37-feet bgs was the only compound that exceeded the California
Department of Health Services (DHS) maximum contaminant level (MCL)
for drinking water.
6 . 0 DRILLING SOIL BORINGS FOR THE INSTALLATION OF
GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELLS AND SAMPLE
COLLECTION
On October 5, 2000, Gregg Drilling of Martinez, California drilled soil
borings MW-1 through MW-5 at the site using a Rhino limited access drill
rig equipped with 8-inch diameter hollow stem augers (Figure 3).
Groundwater monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-5 were subsequently
574 West Grant Line Road Report — October 2000
-5-
