S [EC ® R
. Soil and Groundwater Assessment Work Plan Addendum
7-Eleven Store#32262
October 1, 2003
Page 3
Following installation the well will be developed by surging and bailing using a surge block and bailer
to remove fine-grained sediments from the well and sand pack Periodic measurements of pH,
conductivity and temperature will be made during development to establish baseline values for
groundwater Approximately 10 well casing volumes will be removed from the well during
development All water generated during the development activities will be stored in DOT approved
55-gallon drums pending disposal
Following installation, the new well will be professionally surveyed to establish horizontal position in
relation to pertinent site features and elevation with respect to mean sea level
GROUNDWATER MONITORING AND SAMPLING
Groundwater monitoring and sampling will be conducted to evaluate the groundwater quality by
collecting representative samples Prior to sampling, depth to water in the groundwater monitor well
will be taken and subjective analyses performed The well will be sampled by purging approximately
3 casing volumes of water using a downhole pump or hand bailer until groundwater parameters of
pH, temperature, and conductivity stabilized as measured by portable meters calibrated to a
standard buffer and conductivity standard Groundwater samples will then be collected by lowering a
clean disposable bailer into the well and collecting a representative sample of the formation water If
the well is slow to recover, the sample was not collected until the water level has approached 80
percent of its initial level The groundwater sample will be slowly transferred to laboratory-cleaned
sample containers, sealed with Teflon-lined caps, and transferred to cooled storage
Groundwater samples will be submitted to Kiff Analytical, a California-certified laboratory, for analysis
of BTEX, TPHg, and fuel oxygenates MtBE, TBA, DIPE, EtBE, TAME, 1,2-DCA and EDB by EPA
Method 82608
WASTE HANDLING AND STORAGE
During drilling operations, all augers, sampling tools, and down hole equipment will be steam
cleaned prior to use All rinsate water, purge water and soil cuttings generated during the drilling
operations will be stored in 55-gallon drums at the site pending laboratory analysis for proper
disposal
REPORTING
SECOR will prepare an assessment report summarizing the fieldwork completed and data collected
including
• Details of field procedures and operations
• Boring logs
• Tabulated results of the soil and groundwater sample analyses
• Updated map showing the location of new wells
The newly installed deep groundwater monitoring well will be monitored and sampled quarterly
t
