Shell sites summary
Page 2
The new property owner requested the GWE system be moved to the back northeast portion of the
property. It is anticipated that this will be done by May or June 2006. Additional monitoring wells
have been installed to continue to define the lateral and vertical extent of the hydrocarbon plume.
Some of these wells may be used as extraction wells and connected to the GWE system.
2320 El Dorado Street Stockton
EHD has not received information on the location of the former waste oil tank that was removed
prior to 1984 from this site. Shell will review the file information for 2315 El Dorado Street and this
site to evaluate if the TCE and PCE detected in the water samples at this site are from the former
Shell waste oil tank or the 2315 El Dorado Street site. Shell requested that EHD write a directive
letter to the responsible party for 2315 El Dorado requiring that monitoring and sampling of the
monitoring wells for the two sites be coordinated. EHD has not received a work plan for down-
gradient monitoring well installation. The work plan should be submitted by April 22,2006.
2494 Fremont Street,Stockto
Shallow soil and groundwater contamination was found at the site to the north (2478 E. Oak Street)
of this site. That site has been identified as a former UST site and the responsible party has been
directed to further investigate the extent of the contamination at that site. Shell will not be required
to perform further investigation in that direction. EHD will prepare a comment letter for this site.
The current monitoring wells do not provide delineation to the west and south where grab
groundwater samples were previously collected that evidenced contaminants.
2375 Grant Line,Tcv
Groundwater extraction by a vacuum truck from MW1 and MW6 is being performed monthly in an
attempt to reduce the concentrations of MTBE in these wells. Down-gradient off-site assessment is
impeded by the location of Hwy 205. An SCM is being submitted. Analysis for lead scavengers in
the groundwater at this site will not be performed since lead scavengers were not used by Shell after
1991 and this station was constructed after that time. Shell may submit a co-mingled plume
application with the 7-Eleven site directly south of this site to the State Water Resources Control
Board Cleanup Fund. In order for EHD to agree that the plumes are co-mingled, complete SCM's
with supportive and technically justified information must be prepared.
1071 Main.Street Manteca
This site has received closure.
341 Main Street.Ripon
A fate and transport model will be submitted to EHD that demonstrates that the impacted soil at
this site will not impact groundwater in the future.
7700 Moreland Street,Stockton
MW7 has been found. A new deeper screened well has been installed and the soil and groundwater
are non-detect for contaminants. Samples from the perimeter monitoring wells were non-detect for
contaminants. Water samples from MW3 that is in the source area has low MTBE concentrations.
Groundwater monitoring will continue.
The 6131 Pacific Avenue,Stockton
The dual phase extraction PPE)wells were installed in January and a report of this work will be
submitted to EHD. The fixed DPE system has been built but the permitting process may take 4 to
6 months. Shell felt initiation of interim remediation was not cost effective but agreed to use an
