(AGE) and has the following comments.
The report documents a routine quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling event that took
place on March 21, 2002. Groundwater samples for analysis were collected from the eight
monitoring wells located at this site. Analytical results were generally consistent with the historical
trend of decreasing concentrations of contaminants in MW-4 and MW-5, which are located down
gradient of the former tank pit area, and non-detect results in the site perimeter wells. The only
inconsistent result this quarter was the detection of 1,100 parts per billion total petroleum
hydrocarbons as diesel that was reported in MW-1.
The report recommends that the site be considered for closure. On November 2, 2001 a meeting
was held at the SJCIEHD office to discuss this issue. In attendance were representatives for
SJCIEHD and your consultant, AGE. It was agreed at the meeting that analysis of groundwater
samples for 1,2-dichloroethane and ethylene dibromide would be included in the routine analyses,
that AGE would begin preparation of a Corrective Action Plan, and that SJCIEHD would discuss
the site with the Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region (CVRWQCB). On
November 14, 2001 SJCIEHD met with the CVRWQCB representative, who requested that a
calculation of contaminant mass remaining in the soil be performed, and that more research be
conducted regarding a Chevron product pipeline under Grantline Road. The latter information was
related to AGE by telephone.
SJCIEHD recommends that all above issues be addressed in a formal request for closure following
Appendix B of the CVRWQCB Tri-Regional guidelines.
