PHS/EHD has the following comments for your
consideration.
The report included the results of the April 13, 1994 groundwater sampling event. Groundwater.
contamination was detected in MW1 and MW2 and the gradient direction was confirmed to be northerly.
The report also included a proposal to install three additional monitoring wells. PHS/EHD requested in
correspondence dated April 13, 1991, additional soil and groundwater investigation to determine the extent
of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination. PHS/EHD concurs that additional investigation will be
necessary; however, PHS/EHD disagrees with the proposed location for the soil borings which will be
converted into monitoring wells. PHS/EHD requests re-consideration of the proposed soil
boring/monitoring well Iocations to investigate the pump island area and to define the extent of
groundwater contamination down gradient of the former tanks.
Please submit an addendum to the "Soil and Groundwater Investigation"work plan dated December 31,
1993. Also, please note that in order to characterize the subsurface environment, soil samples should be
collected at 5 foot intervals until the boring is terminated.
If you have any questions, please contact Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Ways, Senior REHS Di ne 31ns , REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
MM12420GL
c: Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWQCB
c: Sohrab Rahimzadeh
c: Alex Kassai, Advanced Soil Technology
A Dkision of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
