CA ^• — — ,_ t
Dear Mr. Najera: I
Chevron was at the subject site on Friday. April 26, 1995 to oversee the removal of contaminated soil
from the former waste oil tank area. The excavation and subsequent soil sampling was also witnessed by
Mr. Harlin Knoll. of San Joaquin County Public Health Services. The final depth of the excavation was 22
feet below ground surface. An estimated 500 cubic yards of soil were removed and stockpiled onsite. As a
result of his onsite field inspection of the remedial efforts, Harlin Knoll indicated that there would be no
further soil remediation required in the former waste oil tank area. In addition, Mr, Knoll agreed with the
proposal to immediately backfill and compact the open excavation. Mr. Knoll also agreed to using
stockpiled soil generated from the former fuel tank excavation as backfill material provided that those
stockpile soils containing detections of TPHGas and gasoline constituents be backfilled at the shallowest
depths.
In light of the above information, Chevron hereby authorizes Fillner Construction to backfill and compact
!` (close) the former waste oil tankpit. Once the bottom I I feet of the excavation have been filled with
import rock. the remaining excavation is to be filled and compacted using stockpiled soils from both, the
new fuel tankpit and the former fuel tankpit. Those remaining fuel tank soils not needed for elevating the
present grade will be hauled offsite for disposal.
Lf further information is required, please contact me directly at(51.0) 842-8695..
Sincerely,
Brett L.
