3. 3 Soil Disposition, Backfill and Compaction
Soil generated during excavation will be stockpiled on visquene on-
site, and covered with visquene. Soil, from non--source areas, will
be used to berm the sides of the stockpile, and visquene will be
arranged to minimize any run-off. This formation will be designed
to protect susceptible storm drains, if inclement weather
interrupts field activities.
Chevron proposes re-use of some soil, depending upon the levels of
contamination encountered. Soil will be segregated during
excavation based on visual inspection. If analytical results
(discrete samples collected for every 25 cubic yards) indicate that
soil is below 100 ppm TPH-gas and 0 .005 ppm benzene then the soil.
will be considered acceptable for backfill and stockpiled on-site
for re-use.
Soil generated .by excavating potential source areas will be
segregated. Discrete soil samples will be collected for
approximately every 25 cubic yards, and sets of four discrete
samples will be composited into one at the laboratory to
characterize every 100 cubic yards. Stockpiled soil slated for
disposal (analytical results above 100 ppm TPH-gas, 0 . 005 benzene)
will be transported to Browning Ferris Industries Vasco Road
landfill facility. Clean import will be brought to the site for
the purpose of backfilling excavations.
Soil stockpile samples will be collected by removing the top 6 to
12 inches of soil.. in each stockpile, then pushing a sample tube
into the soil until completely full. Samples will be sealed,
labeled, recorded on a Chain-of-Custody fora and transported in a
cooler with ice to the laboratory.
3 . 4 Report of Activities
At the completion of all field activities, a comprehensive report
will be prepared for the Regional Water Quality Control Board and
San Joaquin County. The report will include the results of
verification soil sampling, as well as a. summary of field
activities, exploratory boring logs, and chemical analytical
reports. The report will be prepared under the supervision of a
California Registered Geologist.
3 . 5 Schedule for Implementation
4n-site field activities are expected to commence on February 1,
1995 , and continue after the acceptance of this work plan. Tank
removal, excavation work, and soil disposal are expected to be
complete in a one month period, weather permitting.
A comprehensive report of activities will be submitted 45 days
after completion of field activities. A milestone schedule is
