' May 1, 1998 <br /> Page 2 <br /> samples were then transported to Sequoia Analytical, a state-certified laboratory located <br /> in Redwood City, California, accompanied by chain-of custody documentation <br />' FINDINGS <br /> UST Area _ <br />' On February 4, 1998, Balch Construction removed the USTs Ron Hiltscher, an <br /> inspector from the City of Stockton Fare Prevention, and Michael Kith, Environmental <br />' Health Specialist from the San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS), were <br /> present to observe the UST removals The USTs were observed to be in good <br /> condition, with no holes or stairung observed The USTs were transported by Enckson <br />' to their facility in Richmond <br /> PEG collected a total of seven soil samples, designated GTI-A through GT3-C, from <br />' beneath the locations of the three removed gasoline USTs Soil samples designated <br /> DT-1 and DT-2 were collected beneath the location of the removed diesel UST These <br /> samples were collected at depths of approximately 16 feet below ground surface (bgs), <br />' approximately 2 feet into native soil All samples, except for GT3-C, exhibited field <br /> evidence of hydrocarbon impact (i e hydrocarbon staining and/or odor) It is noted that <br /> the hydrocarbon staining and odor observed in the samples appeared weathered and had <br /> Bpi a heavy-end hydrocarbon odor At the direction of Harlin Knoll, Senior Environmental <br /> Health Specialist from SJCPHS, soil samples were collected from potholes at a depth of <br />' 20 feet bgs to assess the vertical extent of hydrocarbon impact These soil samples, <br /> Much were designated NE, SE, NW, and SW, did not exhibit field evidence of <br /> hydrocarbon impact Sample locations are shown on Figure 2 <br />' On February 9, 1998, based on field observations of hydrocarbon impact, and in an effort <br /> to remove as much hydrocarbon impact as practical, the remaining UST area soil was <br />' excavated to a total depth of approximately 20 feet bgs The extent of the final UST <br /> excavation measured approximately 30 feet by 40 feet and 20 feet deep <br /> IProduct Dispenser and Piping Areas <br /> On February 13, 1998, at the direction of Mr Harlin Knoll, PEG collected soli samples <br /> beneath each former product dispenser The gasoline dispenser samples were designated <br /> PD-1 through PD-5, and the diesel dispenser sample was designated DPD The soil <br /> samples were collected at depths of approximately 2 feet below each dispenser Sample <br /> locations are shown on Figure 2 Except for sample PD-4, the product dispenser areas <br /> did not exhibit field evidence of petroleum hydrocarbon impact <br /> The sample PD-4 exhibited a strong hydrocarbon odor Therefore, hmited excavation <br /> was performed in this area to a depth of 12 feet, the maximum obtainable depth for the <br /> 311 i 79]A/SOILREP <br />
