K }
ATTACHMENT A
FIELD AND LABORATORY PROCEDURES
Soil Sampling
Soil samples will be collected by advancing 2-inch-diameter brass sample liners into
undisturbed soil, or soil removed from an excavation by a backhoe bucket Soil samples
for chemical analysis will be retained in the brass liners, labeled, and capped with Teflon
sheets and plastic end caps The samples will then be sealed in zip-lock bags, placed on
ice, and transported to the laboratory accompanied by the appropriate chain-of-custody
documentation
Soil Sampling for Stockpiled Soil
Soil samples will be collected by advancing 2-inch diameter brass sample liners
approximately six inches to one foot into the soil stockpile One composite sample (4-1)
will be collected per approximately 100 cubic yards of soil Soil samples for chemical
analysis will be retained in the brass liners, labeled, and capped with Teflon sheets and
plastic end caps The samples will then be sealed in zip-lock bags, placed on ice, and
transported to the laboratory accompanied by the appropriate chain-of-custody
documentation
Laboratory Analysis of Soil and Groundwater Samples
Analysis for TPH-g and TPH-g will be performed by modified EPA method 8015
Analysis for BTEX compounds and MtBE will performed by EPA Method 8020
Confirmation of MtBE and analysis for oxygenates will be by EPA Method 8260 These
analytical methods utilize gas chromatography and flarne-ionization detection, photo-
ionization detection or mass spectrometry
