A Human Health Risk Screening Evaluation
(HHRSE) will be performed to assess the threat of potential petroleum fuel constituents in soil
and/or groundwater at the site to human health The HHRSE will identify potentially complete
exposure pathways and assess risk associated with these exposures Based on an initial review
of existing data, it will be necessary to collect shallow soil samples for the analyses of BTEX
and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to supplement the existing site information
specifically for performing the HHRSE It is anticipated that a total of four shallow soil
borings will be advanced for the collection of two soil samples per boring at depths of
approximately 5 and 10 feet bgs EPA Method 8270 SIM will be used for PAH analyses to
achieve detection limits suitable for risk assessment purposes The results of the HHRSE will
be reported in the CAP
• Evaluation of Remedial Technologies. The CAP will include an alternatives analysis of
technologies that would be considered appropriate for reducing the potential risk of
petroleum-fuel constituents in soil and groundwater at the site, if the results of previous
characterization and human health risk screening assessments indicate the presence of such
risk The alternatives analysis will provide details for each potential remedy that focus on
• Potential (short-term and long-term) effectiveness (e g , risk reduction, mass reduction,
mobility prevention, timeframe for achieving WQOs),
• Regulatory compliance and public acceptance,
• Cost effectiveness,
• Implementability, and
• Performance monitoring
The technologies that may be considered during the alternatives analysis include natural
attenuation, enhanced bioremediation, and soil excavation The corrective action(s) selected
may include a combination of these technologies
On behalf of Huff& Huff and ContiGroup Companies, we look forward to receiving approval
from the PHS/EHD to complete the CAP and continue to progress toward completion of this
1 1Proiec0000s199631GAP Work Plan doc
