John Yoakum [EH]
From: Nuel Henderson [EH]
Sent: Wednesday,June 04, 2014 1:43 PM
To: 'Lescure, Daniel'
Cc: Adrienne Ellsaesser [EH];John Yoakum [EH]
Subject: RE:Cordes Ranch Well Destructions -COR-060223-2014-
Daniel,
I have reviewed the information you sent to me in regard to San Joaquin County Well Standards for proper destruction
methods for monitoring wells. As I mentioned during our phone conversation earlier today, the interest of the
Environmental Health Department in applying the standard is not the same as the Central Valley Regional Water Quality
Control Board's interest in the investigation and characterization of the unauthorized release from the pipeline; the EHD
concern is with the proper destruction of wells that may serve as vertical conduits in areas of known or suspected
contamination,whatever the source of the contamination.
The EHD has identified the following wells as requiring removal of the well contents and grouting the resulting boring for
proper destruction under the county Well Standards:
MW-1 Impacted soil from 5 to at least 20 feet below ground surface(bsg);
MW-2 Impacted soil 5 feet to at least 40 feet bsg and impacted groundwater;
MW-4 Impacted soil at 25 feet bsg;
MW-5A Impacted soil from 20 feet to at least 50 feet bsg and the presence of free product;
MW-56 Inferred presence of impacted soil and possibly free product in similar depth intervals as in MW-5A and
periodically impacted groundwater;
MW-5C Inferred presence of impacted soil and possibly free product in similar depth intervals as in MW-5A and
periodically impacted groundwater;
MW-13B Periodic impact to groundwater;
MW-13C Periodic impact to groundwater;
MW-15 Impacted soil at 29 feet and 40 feet bsg and presence of free product;
VW-1 Impacted soil;
VW-2 Impacted soil; and
VW-3 Impacted soil.
The steel conductor casings in MW-5B and MW-5C can remain in place, but the upper 3 feet must be removed and
finished in accordance with the Well Standards; all other monitoring wells listed in the work plan can be pressure grouted
as proposed in the work plan.
Thanks again for providing the various documents and information to me. Do contact me if you have any additional
questions or comments.
Nuel Henderson, PG
(209)468=3436
From: Lescure, Daniel [mailto:DLescure@craworld.com]
Sent: Tuesday, June 03, 2014 5:08 PM
To: Nuel Henderson [EH]
Cc: Project Email Filing
Subject: Cordes Ranch Well Destructions -COR-060223-2014-
Hi
COR-060223-2014Hi Newel-
1
