KLE/NFELDER
BligM1t Veople.XigM1f Solulnni.
3 SCOPE OF SERVICES
The following subsections describe the soil sampling activities to be performed at the Site.
3.1 PRE-SAMPLING ACTIVITIES
Kleinfelder has prepared a project Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan (HSP) to address the
health and safety of Kleinfelder's workers and provide contingency plans for emergencies that
may arise. The HSP provides guidelines for personal protective equipment and safety
procedures to be used by Kleinfelder's staff during the field activities.
As required by State law, Underground Service Alert of Northern California and Nevada (USA
North), also known as DigAlert, will be notified 48 hours prior to commencing subsurface
activities, to obtain clearance of underground utilities. Following USA notification, a commercial
geophysical services provider will locate and mark detectable utilities in the vicinity of the
proposed sampling location, at which one soil boring (to be designated Boring B-1) will be
advanced and sampled.
3.2 DRILLING, SAMPLING, AND ANALYSES
3.2.1 Soil Sampling and Analysis
Boring B-1 will be advanced to a depth of approximately 9 feet below ground surface (bgs),
using hand auger and push-probe (also referred to as direct-push) technology, at the
approximate middle of the proposed additive UST location (see attached Plate). A hand auger
will be used to advance the initial 5 feet of the boring, to further clear for subsurface utilities, and
the push-probe equipment will then be used to advance the remainder of the boring. Direct-push
technology, such as the GeoprobeTA ' involves driving a hollow, steel rod into the ground to the
desired depth using a hydraulic percussion hammer mounted on the back of a truck or on a
limited access rig.
Soil samples collected from the boring at approximate depths of 2 feet, 5 feet, and 8 feet bgs
will be retained for submittal for analysis (unless field observations, such as the presence of
hydrocarbon or chemical staining or odor, warrant the submittal of a sample from between these
intervals). Soil samples will be collected using a combination of hand-held (i.e., hand auger)
and direct-push equipment. Soil samples collected using the hand auger will be placed in 8-
ounce glass jars to be provided by the analytical laboratory. Direct-push samples will be
collected using a sampler lined with 0.75-inch diameter, polycarbonate sample sleeves that are
131248/ST013R0287 Page 3 of 6 April 9,2013
Copyright 2013 Kleinfelder
