3 <br /> i <br /> E � <br /> E <br /> Waterwork <br /> Soil Sampling Protocol <br /> A proposal will be submitted to the Public Health Division of the <br /> CCunty Health Department with proposed boring/sampling <br /> The exact location and number of borings at, each isgite�will nbe <br /> ' determined in the field by the Project Geologist. <br /> Prior to arriving at the sample site, the drill rig/augers will <br /> steam cleaned and <br /> la sample equipment will be washed with <br /> laboratory grade detergent and rinsed twice with tap water and <br /> once with deionized water. This procedure will be conducted on <br /> r� site on all sampling equipment between each sample interval. <br /> ' Soil samples will be obtained using a California modif' <br /> s nu spoon sampler containing three, six inch longled split- <br /> i <br /> brass tubes. The sampler will be driven 18 in hes ahead iof ethe <br /> -r hollow stem auger by a 140- pound hammer with a 3o inch drop in <br /> accordance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) <br /> Methods D 1586-84 for split barrel sampling of soil and D 1587-83 <br /> f I <br /> for thin-walled tube sampling of soils. The blows to drive the <br /> s sampler each sixinch interval will be recorded on the boring <br /> �.' <br /> log. The sampler will be removed from the boring and opei ed to <br /> s reuse'! the brass tubes. The bottom tube will be cappedwith <br /> aluminum foil .and plastic end caps, taped and Labeled with the <br /> following information: date, time, project ZD, sample ID <br /> ' sampler and t name of <br /> type of analysis. This sample will be immediately <br /> placed into a cooler containing dry ice or "blue ice". The <br /> samples will be delivered to a state certified laboratory under <br /> x cossible.as.n-of-custody <br /> Possible. .protocol with 48 hours of sampling, when <br /> 4, Soil in the uppermost brass tube will be described for <br /> . color, consistenc texture, i <br /> y, moisture content, presence of contamination <br /> k. and any other distinguishing characteristics. Soil properties <br /> J ' will also be noted in the middle brass tube and from the sampler <br /> t# shoe. These field observations will be noted on a lag prepared <br /> 11 for each boring/well. <br /> During sampling, latex gloves will be worn to prevent cross- <br /> contamination with other samples.
