This procedure will be conducted on
r site on all sampling equipment between each sample interval.
' Soil samples will be obtained using a California modif'
s nu spoon sampler containing three, six inch longled split-
i
brass tubes. The sampler will be driven 18 in hes ahead iof ethe
-r hollow stem auger by a 140- pound hammer with a 3o inch drop in
accordance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)
Methods D 1586-84 for split barrel sampling of soil and D 1587-83
f I
for thin-walled tube sampling of soils. The blows to drive the
s sampler each sixinch interval will be recorded on the boring
.'
log. The sampler will be removed from the boring and opei ed to
s reuse'! the brass tubes. The bottom tube will be cappedwith
aluminum foil .and plastic end caps, taped and Labeled with the
following information: date, time, project ZD, sample ID
' sampler and t name of
type of analysis. This sample will be immediately
placed into a cooler containing dry ice or "blue ice". The
samples will be delivered to a state certified laboratory under
x cossible.as.n-of-custody
Possible. .protocol with 48 hours of sampling, when
4, Soil in the uppermost brass tube will be described for
. color, consistenc texture, i
y, moisture content, presence of contamination
k. and any other distinguishing characteristics. Soil properties
J ' will also be noted in the middle brass tube and from the sampler
t# shoe. These field observations will be noted on a lag prepared
11 for each boring/well.
During sampling, latex gloves will be worn to prevent cross-
contamination with other samples.
