T <br /> Mr. Harlin Knoll <br /> August 25, 1998 <br /> Page 3 <br /> • <br /> Subsequent to drilling, the borings were backfilled using neat cement The neat cement was placed <br /> through a trenue pipe to the total depth of each boring The groundwater displaced by the backfilling <br /> was contained in DOT-approved 55-gallon drums and labeled <br /> Litholosv <br /> Souls encountered at the site consisted of interbedded clay, silt, sand and gravel The upper 50 feet of <br /> soil is predominantly snit and clay with a 7-15 foot thick sand/gravel layer encountered beginning at <br /> approximately 18-20 feet bgs It should be noted that these bonungs were advanced through native <br /> maternal that has been excavated (to approximately 35 feet bgs), aerated, and subsequently <br /> backfilled/compacted Soil from approximately 50 to 70 feet bgs had a greater proportion of poorly <br /> graded sand/sdty sand except for boring DB-3, where only a 2-3 foot sand lens was logged Soni below <br /> 70 feet (DB-la only) consisted of clays and silts, with a 34 foot thick sand layer at approximately 95 <br /> feet Boring logs are included in Attachment C <br /> Groundwater was first encountered in borings DB-1 a, DB-2, and DB-3 at depths of 42 5, 39 5, and 43 <br /> feet bgs, respectively <br /> Soil Sample Analysis <br /> Slight to strong petroleum odors were noted in soil samples collected from DB-1/DB-1a from 35 to 70 <br />. feet bgs Corresponding FID readings vaned from greater than 10,000 parts per million (ppm) <br /> between 35 and 50 feet bgs, 700 to 5,000 ppm from 55 to 65 feet bgs, and 80 ppm at 70 feet bgs Soil <br /> samples from DB-1/DB-1a at depths of 35 5, 45 5, 66, 80, and 98 5 feet bgs were submitted for <br /> laboratory analysis Slight to strong petroleum odors were noted in soil samples collected from DB-2 <br /> from 45 to 65 feet bgs, and corresponding FID readings ranged from 500 to 2,000 ppm between 45 <br /> and 55 feet bgs, and 4 5 ppm at 65 feet bgs Soil samples from DB-2 at depths of 35 5, 46, 55 5, 60 5, <br /> and 70 5 feet bgs were submitted for laboratory analysis Slight to moderate petroleum odors were <br /> noted in soil samples collected from DB-3 from 45 to 70 feet bgs Corresponding FID readings vaned <br /> from greater than 10,000 ppm at 45 feet bgs, between 100 to 500 ppm from 50 to 55 feet bgs, and 0 to <br /> 20 ppm below 60 feet Soil samples from DB-3 at depths of 36, 46, 50 5, 60 5, and 70 5 feet bgs were <br /> submitted for laboratory analysis Boring logs with FID readings are included in Attachment C <br /> Samples were submitted under chain of custody to Argon Laboratory and analyzed for total petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) using modified EPA method 8015, and benzene, toluene, <br /> ethylbenzene, and total xylenes(BTEX)using EPA method 8020 Additionally, samples from DB-1 at <br /> depth of 66 and 98 5 feet bgs were submitted to McCampbell Analytical and analyzed for volatile <br /> organic compounds(VOCs) and gasoline oxygenate additives using EPA method 8260 <br /> Groundwater Sample Analysis <br /> The grab water samples were submitted under chain of custody documentation to Argon and analyzed <br /> for TPHg and BTEX using the methods outlined above <br /> kWwIc&hamk orL%'Vn rMdw <br />
