Woodward-Clyde
V
1.-
1.1 PHYSICAL SETTING
The site is located at 5451 Harding Way, 1/4 mile west of Beyer Lane, in Stockton,
California (Figure 1). The site consists of a generator shed containing a propane generator
and an equipment shed, both located on a concrete pad. One aboveground propane tank is
located in a grassy area east of the concrete pad. The site is enclosed within a chain-link
fence. An overhead electrical line runs westward and then southward from the equipment
shed to an overhead electric line located south of Harding Way (Figure 2).
V
The site lies in the central portion of the Central Valley, within the Great Valley Geomorphic
Province. This geographic province is characterized by a network of alluvial fans that form
a relatively flat basin in the trough between the Sierra Nevada mountains to the east and the
Coast Ranges to the west. The site is within Holocene age flood-basin deposits consisting
mainly of clay, silt, and some sand deposited during the flood stages of major streams. The
. flood-basin deposits grade into river deposits, rocks, and deposits of Tertiary and Quaternary
age, and lacustrine and marsh deposits. The flood-basin deposits in this area consist of as
much as 160-feet of fine grained sediments. Because of their fine-grained nature, the flood-
basin deposits do not yield much water to wells and impede the vertical movement of water.
V
Nearby surface water features include the Stockton Diverting Canal which crosses Fremont
Road approximately 1/4-mile southwest of the site. The Mormon Slough crosses Highway
99 approximately 1 mile south of the transmitter station. An irrigation well is located
approximately 80 feet west of the former UST excavation (Figure 2).
1.2 SITE BACKGROUND
On November 12, 1993, one UST which formerly contained diesel fuel, was removed from
the site by SEMCO Environmental of Modesto, California. Tank identification numbering
consists of county, site, and tank designation. San Joaquin County is given the designation
V
number of 39, and the KJAX site is designated as site 2598. The 1000-gallon steel UST
(Tank ID # 39-2598-01) installed in 1964 was approximately 4-feet in diameter and 11-feet
in length. It had been out of service since the mid 1980's. The steel supply and return lines
of the UST were 1-inch in diameter and were found disconnected at the generator shed. The
8054/FEMAWAXPMR.F7r/8-24-95 SAC 1-2
V
