HORIZON ENVIRONMENTAL INC.
Specialists in Site Assessment,Remedial Testing,Design and Operation
4
July 27, 2005 RECEQWE
Mr. Rob Fishburn
JJ
Ultramar Inc. JUL w 8 2005
685 West Third Street ENVIRONMENT HEALTH
Hanford, California 93230 PERNIIT/SERVICES
Subject: Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring 1 Remediation System Report
Second Quarter 2005
Beacon Station No. 3641
1210 East Hammer Lane, Stockton, California
Mr. Fishbum.-
Horizon Environmental Inc. (Horizon) has prepared this report which documents results of
second quarter 2005 groundwater monitoring at the subject site located in San Joaquin
County as shown on Figure 1. There are twelve groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1
through MW-7 and MW-9 through MW-13), eight vapor wells.(VW-1 through VW-8) and
one sparge well (SW-1) associated with the site (Figure 2). The off-site monitoring well
MW-8 was destroyed in April 2003. Monitoring wells MW-9 through MW-13 were installed
during fourth quarter 2004 and are included in the quarterly monitoring program starting
second quarter 2005. The wells are sampled according to the program contained in
Attachment A.
Horizon conducts operation and maintenance activities at the site for vapor extraction / air
sparge systems. Operation of the remediation systems was initiated in March 2005 under a
San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control Board Authority to Construct Permit No. N-5036-
1-1.
Groundwater Monitoring
Groundwater monitoring activities were conducted by Doulos Environmental Company
(Doulos) on June 16, 2005 according to Ultramar Field Procedures (Attachment A).
Monitoring activities included measurement of static groundwater level, purging groundwater
from the wells, collection of groundwater samples, and preparation and delivery of the
samples to the analytical laboratory.
The depth to groundwater was measured to the nearest 0.01 foot from the top-of-casing
(TOC) in monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-7, MW-9 through MW-13, sparge well SW-1
and vapor wells VW-1, VW-3, VW-6 and VW-7. Vapor wells VW-2, VW-4, VW-5 and VW-
8 were dry. The physical parameters conductivity, pH and temperature of the groundwater
were monitored with field instrumentation during the purging process. The visual
characteristics of the groundwater were also noted during the purging process.
