' The point of compliance for the contingency plan is downgradient well, MW-413. The
contingency plan will be initiated in the event adverse effects are occurring. The contingency
plan calls for removal of dissolved contaminants using a conventional pump and treat strategy.
' The pilot test (Haley & Aldrich, 2003) demonstrated that concentrations declined after pumping.
To implement the contingency plan, approximately two new extraction wells — screened within
the intermediate aquifer — would be installed downgradient of the three ZVI injection areas.
' Recovered water would be treated using granulated activated carbon and/or air stripping and
treated water would be discharged under an NPDES permit or re-injected. If difficulties or
' delays arise in obtaining an NPDES permit, an alternative strategy would be to obtain a
temporary discharge permit from the City of Stockton to allow transport of treated groundwater
to the Regional Wastewater Control Facility.
t
R:\CONTGRAN\CC14Cargi11\French Camp\Waste Discharge Apphufion\supp info 6-29-04.doc
13
