i
it I
4.4 Confirmation Soil Sampling (Second Round)
At the request of the County, a second round of confirmation soil samples were !
collected on November 23, 1992, from the West Excavation (beneath the former waste
oil UST). Six (6) soil samples were collected by FGL and transported to FGL under the
direct supervision of, and at locations specified by Mr. Infurna of the/ County. The
sample locations are shown on the Site Map included as Exhibit 2. !
4.5 Analytical Results - Confirmation Soil Samples (Second Round)
The six (6) soil samples collected form the West Excavation during the second round
of sampling were analyzed by FGL in accordance with State guidelines and EPA
protocols. All six samples were analyzed for Semi-volatile Organics (EPA 8270), TTLC
Metals (EPA 6010 for Cadmium, Chromium, Nickel, and Zinc; and EPA 7420 for Lead),
VOH (EPA 8010), BTEX (EPA 8020), TPHg and TPHd (EPA 8015M), TOG (EPA 418.1),
and PCB's (EPA 8080). The detection limits were 1.0, 2.0, or 5.0 mg/kg for Semi-
volatile organics, 3.0 or 4.0 mg/kg for TTLC Metals, 5.0 mg/kg for VOH, 0.005 mg/kg for
BTEX, 1.0 mg/kg for TPHg, 10.0 mg/kg for TPHd and TOG, and 2.0 mg/kg for PCBs.
The laboratory reports, quality assurance, and chain-of-custody documents are
included as Appendix B.
I
4.6 Discussion of Analytical Results - Confirmation Soil Samples
Non-detectable concentrations of TPHg and BTEX were reported in all six (6)
confirmation soil samples collected from the East Excavation. Non-detectable TOG
and VOH concentrations were also reported in the five (5) confirmation soil samples
first round) collected from the West Excavation, and non-detectable concentrations of
soluble nickel was reported for sample WO-10.
Analytical results of all six (6) confirmation soil samples collected in the second
sampling round indicated non-detectable concentrations of Semi-volatile organics,
VOH, BTEX, TPHg, TPHd, and PCB's; and background concentrations of the five (5)
TTLC Metals. Non-detectable concentrations of TOG were also reported for five of the
six samples, with a minimal concentration of 30 mg/kg TOG reported for sample "South
Wap at 17"'. Exhibit 3 is a cross-section oriented from west to east which shows the
excavations, confirmation soil sample locations, and test boring locations that lie along
line A-A' on Exhibit 2.
I I I
7 of 10
