(H&H) submitted a Monitoring
Well Destruction Workplan on February 1, 2010, along with associated fees. The workplan
documented the C-57 driller and their procedures to properly abandon the former monitoring
wells associated with this facility. The workplan was subsequently approved and the work
performed on February 24-25, 2010 with you being present for sealing activities.
This letter is to provide final documentation regarding the well abandonment procedures
followed, volume of sealing materials used at each well, and final disposition of
investigative/abandonment derived waste materials.
DESTRUCTION/ABANDONMENT INFORMATION
All wells which were over-drilled followed the procedure for complete destruction and
subsequently sealed with neat cement as documented in the EHD approved workplan. All
three over-drilled wells were in an unpaved area and, therefore; the cemented well covers
were completely removed and a mushroom cap of sealing material was placed above the
borehole. A total volume of 110 gallons of water was displaced by sealing materials from
within the over-drilled boreholes which was collected by vacuum and placed into 55-
gallon drums, labeled and subsequently disposed.
Following the neat cement specifications provided in the workplan, PeneCore drilling
used a mix ratio of approximately 2.5-3 gallons of water per 47# bag of Quickrete Type
IV Portland (5-6 gallons/949 bag originally specified) with the following total volumes
placed in each location:
